December 7, 2006 at
Gilman Library, Alton

ATTENDANCE: Holly Brown-Gilman Library, Rhoda Capron-Blaisdell Library, Diane Cassidy-Gafney Library, Berrie Donovan-Gafney Library, Yvonne Fisher-Ossipee Library, Kristin Rainey-Madbury, Cindy Scott-Wolfeboro Public Library, Lindalee Lambert-Tuftonboro Free Library, Christie Sarles-Tuftonboro Free Library, Ann Hoey-NHSL and Mike Sullivan.

Meeting called to order at 9:32 AM.

MINUTES: The minutes of the September 14, 2006 meeting were accepted with a spelling correction to Titia Bozuwa’s name.

TREASURER’S REPORT: No treasurer’s report was available.

NHSL: Ann Hoey spoke about the popularity of the downloadable books program. Some school libraries have asked to join the program but that isn’t possible so they are recommending the schools contact the local public library about getting access to the downloadable books.

NHAIS now has a blog that they will be communicating via instead of the list. Many of those in attendance at today’s meeting were not thrilled to have another place to have to look to get information.

Annual statistics will be collected even earlier this year. The form will be coming out in January. This is because of when the Federal Government wants the statistics
Ann brought children’s books left over from the children’s book review. Attendees were able to select several titles for their libraries.

OLD BUSINESS
: CD and DVD purchases update: Lindalee has spent all of the money budgeted for these items without buying any supplies to process them. She requested $100 for supplies. Berry made a motion to spend $100 on supplies and Rhoda seconded. All were in favor.
Kristin talked about the website and the rotation lists. Kristin is moving to NJ on Saturday but would be willing to work on the website long distance. She recommended directnic.com for hosting the website. For about $25 you get the domain name and they host it for a year. Karen has done some work on this issue so Kristin will contact Karen to figure out where we are and how to proceed.
Bobbi Slosser will do the program on March 8, 2007 at the Farmington Library. However she wanted us to pinpoint what aspect about “technology” we wanted to know about. After discussion it was decided to ask her to talk about new technologies that are headed our way.
The proposed change to the by-laws of one-year terms instead of two-year terms for officers was tabled until the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:
Christie submitted a grant to “Granite State Reads” for RALI to receive 80 book sets with 10 going to each of the juvenile audio rotations. We should know in January whether or not we got the grant.
The policy for lost RALI material that cannot be charged to a borrower was discussed. When that happens RALI absorbs the cost.

Next Meeting: March 8 in Farmington.

The business meeting adjourned at 10:12 AM.

The program for today’s meeting was storytelling by Mike Sullivan: Tales Told Tall. Mike told stories with wise men and fools. He is available to do programming including storytelling, storytelling workshops, origami workshops and chess instruction.

Respectfully Submitted,
Cindy Scott
